Harry Goldman was born in Bristol, England. Little is known of his early life before he established his first business as a cabinet maker and designer in Melbourne in 1901 with D. Bernard in Central Melbourne. In 1928 he moved to Chapel Street South Yarra trading as H. Goldman Pty. Ltd. The business specialised in custom made furniture of the highest quality made exclusively in Australian timbers.

His work was often ornate and finely carved as seen in a commemorative table for the Australian War Memorial in Canberra. He exhibited a mountain ash sideboard at the Panama Pacific exhibition in San Francisco in 1915 for which he won a gold medal. He also won a gold medal at the Australian Federal Exhibition in Melbourne in 1903 and a bronze medal at the British Empire Exhibition in Wembley in 1903 he also manufactured furniture to the designs of Walter Burley Griffen more... for the cafe Australia in Melbourne in 1915 and for the residents of the artist Napier Waller in 1935.
