Jeff Mincham (Australian, b. 1950), Vase, 1983, wheel thrown stoneware of globular form, with floral sgraffito decoration to graduated brown and black glaze, artist's signature incised to base 'Mincham 83', height 9.65 in.
- Sgraffito - In ceramics, sgraffito is a scratched or incised decoration through the slip, applied to the body of the object before glazing, to reveal the colour of the body underneath.
- Incised - A record of a name, date or inscription, or a decoration scratched into a surface, usually of a glass or ceramic item with a blunt instrument to make a coarse indentation. Compare with engraving where the surface is cut with a sharp instrument such as a metal needle or rotating tool to achieve a fine indentation.
