A good early 20th century French carved beech framed, caned and upholstered duchesse brisee (bergere chair and matching ottoman), the wing back chair with restrained floral and scroll carved detail, caned panels to the sides and back, contemporary upholstery to the interior arms, rests, loose back cushioned seat and ottoman in a fine banded silver metallic foil and dark taupe slubby linen. Total length 72.05 in.
- Panels - Timber pieces, usually of well-figured wood either recessed or applied over the frames of doors and as decoration elsewhere in the carcase of cabinet furniture. The panels may take a variety of shapes rectangular, square, shield shape, oval, half-round or in the form of Egyptian pylons.
- Beech - Beech, a pale coloured timber, is native to temperate Europe, Asia and North America and classified as a hardwood, although comparitively "soft" when compared with oak or ash. It has long been popular with with country craftsmen, particulary chair makers, as unlike ash it is suitable for turning.
