A bearded footballer in full playing outfit with inflated oval ball at his side, circa 1880, Albumen print photograph, carte de visite format, 4.02 in. x 2.52 in., verso imprinted 'From Burman's Photographic Rooms, 209 Bourke St. East, near Parliament Houses and St. Georges Hall, next Theate Royal Melbourne … Views taken in any part of Victoria', both the albumen print and mount are in fine condition. The young footballer posing in Burman's studio was probably a member of one of Melbourne's early suburban football teams. Arthur Burman's studio was located at this address at the top end of Bourke Street between 1878 and 1888.
