An extinct North Island giant moa leg, species Dinornis novaezelandiae, consisting of femur, tibia, metatarsus and toe bones. Mostly from one bird, some restoration and plaster cast replacement. Wire mounted on a display stand. Height 49.21 in. Provenance: Found by our vendor in 1967 on his Oparure family farm, south Waitomo district. Copy of 1968 newspaper article available illustrating and detailing this leg. Note: This species reached about 3.6m height with neck outstretched, and weighed about 230kg, being one of the two largest species.
