A good George III burl wood and hand painted table snuff box, the natural highly figured burl base with hand painted tapered Scottish thistle sides and hinged lid with figured scene entitled 'Well Done Cutty-Sark!'. 4.13 in. x 5.12 in. x 1.97 in. Note: Cutty-sark is a nickname given to Nannie Dee, a fictional witch created by Robert Burns in his poem Tam o' Shanter, after the garment she wore. In the poem, the erotic sight of her dancing in such a short clothing caused the protagonist Tam to cry out 'Well done, Cutty-Sark', which subsequently became a well-known catchphrase.
