Rare Chatham Islands Morori patu okewa (hand club), abstracted avian form, carved from rekohu schist. Probably used historically for ceremonies or the hunting of seals as the Morori embraced a pacifist culture that avoided all forms of warfare. A similar example is held in the collection of the Museum of New Zealand Te papa Tongarewa, 15.75 in. length.
