A Dogon mask, Mali. Depicting an antelope. Kanaga masks are worn at dama rituals that are performed to usher the spirits of dead from the village. This mask has a rectangular form head carved from wood. A slender long arrow shaped nose and projecting mouth. The mask has four vertical horns. The mask is coloured with black and red pigment in a dot pattern. Fibre rope ties at the back. Height 20.28 in., width 7.87 in., depth 5.51 in.
