Baron (Sterling Henry Nahum) (1906 - 1956), a magnificent pair of photogravure portraits of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, individually framed and glazed and both signed and dated '1954' in pen, on the occasion of the 1954 Royal visit to Australia. Matching frames, Museum quality glass, each 27.17 in. x 21.65 in. Superb condition, the photographs were taken by Baron on 12 March 1953 and were subsequently published in England by Raphael Tuck & Sons, as a personal friend of Prince Philip, Baron photographed many significant moments in the Queen's life, including her marriage to Philip in 1947. Baron also took the first official photographs of Prince Charles following his birth in 1948. Baron created idealised, romantic and glamorous portraits of the young Queen. While these two examples of his work appear formal and traditional, especially when compared with the work of his contemporaries Cecil Beaton and Anthony Armstrong-Jones, they allow the youth, radiance and beauty of the new Queen and her husband to shine through.
