A large stone toki, Aotearoa, crafted from a black stone. A rough surface with losses from use. With a curved profile. When ancestors of Maori first arrived in Aotearoa from East Polynesia they found a wide variety of rock types to use for tools and ornamentation. Stone toki, or adzes were lashed to wood handles and used for wood working, length 8.27 in., width 2.76 in., depth 1.57 in.
