A rare Chelsea porcelain cane-handle in the form of a lady, with flowers in her hair, modelled by Jospeh Willems, English circa 1745, 2.56 in. high 1.65 in. front to back. Provenance: Stockspring Antiques London 2016 ( 4,200 pounds). The same model is in the Victoria and Albert Museum London and illustrated in Elizabeth Adams Chelsea Porcelain Fig.7.30. An example of this model is also in the Metropolitan Museum of Art NYC
- Circa - A Latin term meaning 'about', often used in the antique trade to give an approximate date for the piece, usually considered to be five years on either side of the circa year. Thus, circa 1900 means the piece was made about 1900, probably between 1895 and 1905. The expression is sometimes abbreviated to c.1900.
