Chinese square shaped. Lidded box. For use as an ink container, probably Pakaktong. Bearing an incised picture of a young Chairman Mao together with nicely written calligraphy and a date in English characters for 1949. 10.1. Inside probably tin lined and has sustained some rust. The outside is tarnished and shows signs of wear and use. Width 3.74 in. Height 1.06 in.
- Incised - A record of a name, date or inscription, or a decoration scratched into a surface, usually of a glass or ceramic item with a blunt instrument to make a coarse indentation. Compare with engraving where the surface is cut with a sharp instrument such as a metal needle or rotating tool to achieve a fine indentation.
