A World War I & II NZEF father & son war memorabilia collection; the father Fred Deans, Wellington Mounted Rifles, collection includes; service pair medals stamped '11/241 TPR .F.DEANS. N.Z.E.F' and 1914-15 Star on bar with other ribbons for Queens and the Kings South Africa medals, Boer War (not present), together with his dog tag, various cloth badges, Christmas 1914 tin and pencil in bullet, various photographs 'Anzac Cove Gallipoli 1915', Sapper Moore-Jones signed print, 'Soldiers Pay Book', 'Certificate of Discharge', 'Leave Certificate', sweet heart photograph and importantly his personal Diary with entries including; July 24th 1915 ' Going into facing trenches at 12 noon 1.10 Destroyer 25th Bombards Turkish position and makes things hum'...' Tuesday 3rd (Aug.) ' On duty at No 5 Vitturk make my first bag one Turk' and in relation to the Table Top Sari Barr offensive the diary speaks of witnessing Major Chambers being shot and burying him on Chambers Hill. On Tuesday 10th August........ ' reports of heavy casualties among New Zealand officers we lose (sic ) several men by Turkish snipers we have very few men left....', etc. Later F. Deans was invalided back to New Zealand and discharged in 1916. His son A.A.J. Deans' items include; (105428) medals service pair, Defence Medal and Italy Star, all recipient engraved together with his dog tags, cloth badges, buttons, call up papers, etc.
